Attendance Policy

Attendance Policy
Pocklington Community Junior School expects good attendance from its pupils in order for them to make the most of the opportunities that the school has to offer.

We would ask parents to help the school by notifying us of all absences on the first day, and always to ensure that any absence is covered by a note on your child's return to school. Any absence which is known in advance, e.g. family holidays, should be notified to the school by completing a holiday form at least 5 days prior to the absence (obtainable from the school office). In this case please ensure you receive an acknowledgement and signed authorisation for this holiday before you travel. Other absences would require a letter to class teacher. Back to top
Our children are praised for good attendance
We give awards at the end of each term for children whose attendance has been excellent. We also acknowledge when improvement has been made to previously poor attendance. Attendance is also noted on reports which are passed on to secondary schools.
Good attendance means that children usually make good, consistent progress in their school work. Back to top
Daily Routine
Our school day starts at 8.55 a.m. Registers should be completed shortly after this. Pupils who are not present for registration will be marked as absent initially. If a child arrives after the register has been taken, he/she should report to the office. Their time of arrival will be recorded in the late book. If they arrive before 9.30 a.m. their mark will be changed to present but late. Any arrival after 9.30 a.m. is an unauthorised absence unless a letter is received from the parent or guardian. Monitoring Attendance
An attendance book will be kept.
Mrs Dawn Stone will telephone parents on the first day of absence if a reason/explanation of the absence has not been received.
All absences must be supported by a written note. If, after two weeks, a note is not received giving a reason for absence, the attendance officer, Mrs Dawn Stone, will be alerted so a letter can be sent to parents. The absence remains unauthorised until a reason is received.
If you are concerned about your child's attendance please contact the headteacher, assistance will be given to address the situation. Back to top
