“POCK IDOL” 2009 was again held in
This is the 6th year that Friends of Pocklington Community Junior School have held this event which is based on the original Pop Idol television programme first aired in October 2001.Open to any student of the school with any particular talent.
There was a fantastic variety of acts, which included singers, dancers, gymnasts, comedians and musicians.
Compere was Mr. Alan Spademan, (a supply teacher from school) who kept the entire evening running smoothly with his wit, charm and vivacious personality and was very impressed with the talent of all the children.
The Judges:-

Mr. Darren Jackson - Manager, Francis Scaife Sports Centre
Mrs. Lydia Stonelake - Music Coordinator and teacher at St Mary & St Joseph Primary School
had an unenviable task of deciding the winner.
First place went to Kieran Bond a year six student performing street dancing to the sound of “Hip Hop” for which he did his own choreography.
Second place went to Daisy Allen singing “Hallelujah” accompanied by her brother on the piano, and third place went to Rose Molloy singing “Ben” originally by Michael Jackson.
Kieran also won the audience vote.

A surprise act by Sarah Carlisle (acting head teacher) Jenny Atkins, Catherine Harper, Sara Hick, SueYeates and Lisa Schofield (school staff) brought the evening to a close singing a medley of “Abba” songs.
Many thanks go to the technical support team from Woldgate College of Mr.Tom Morris and students James Grant, Liam Potter and Jonathan Taylor and also to the back stage crew comprising of Rosemary Hutchinson, Karen Gray, Jan Stubbins and Dawn Briggs (teaching assistants of PCJS) and to Cherie Marwood and Angela Ralph (teaching staff) for their help.
Special thanks go to Pocklington Arts Centre and Francis Scaife who donated the prizes and to Langland’s Garden Centre who once again loaned some fabulous plants for stage decoration. Thanks also go to Woldgate staff for the use of their hall and refreshment facilities plus the support given by the Performing Arts Department.
Caroline Walker organizer (Chair of the Friends Committee) said ‘This has been a fantastic night, all the children were brilliant!’ Everyone has worked really hard and we’ve had lots of support. We raised £600 which is going towards buying the final smart board in school.
